Student or recently qualified AHP or nurse bursary 

We're offering one bursary to a student, recently qualified AHP or nurse to attend the Annual conference next year. 

This bursary is presented to an applicant who has submitted a piece of work that is of outstanding quality for a person at this stage in their career and be directly relevant to rheumatology.

Who can apply:

  • Students (to become a nurse or an AHP)
  • AHPs (within 1 year of qualification)
  • Nurses (within 1 year of qualification)
  • Applicants do not have to be a member to apply
How to apply:

To be eligible for this award you must submit an abstract for the Annual conference through the abstract submission site under any AHP topic.

The work being submitted must have been completed as of either your pre-registration training as a nurse, AHP, pharmacist, psychologist, researcher or a subsequent Masters level degree. Help from supervisor/teacher is acceptable.

Applications will reopen in 2018.

Education bursary

This bursary is an opportunity for members to enhance their skills or knowledge in rheumatology.

  • Applicants must be a member to apply
What you will receive:

£500 to be used on the following:

  • Conference registration
  • Education course
  • Educational visit
How to apply:

To be eligible for this award you must you must complete the application form. Up to four bursaries are awarded a year.

Clinical prize

This award is made to recognise examples of outstanding clinical work, highlight best practice, and improved patient care.

Who can apply:

  • AHPs
  • Nurses
  • Pharmacists
  • Psychologists
  • Researchers
  • Applicants must be a member to apply. 
How to apply:

To be eligible for this award you must submit an abstract for the Annual conference through the abstract submission site under ‘Allied health professionals and nurses clinical practice, service design, service delivery and evaluation’ topic. Literature reviews and case studies are not eligible. 

The winner will recieve:

  • £250 prize cheque
  • Certificate of achievement
  • The opportunity to present your research at the Annual conference as an oral presentation

Applications will reopen in 2018.

 

Best Practice Awards

These awards promote best practice and innovation in rheumatology.

Previous winners have shown how innovative work has improved patient experience, health care value, and outcomes, as well as offering examples of ways in which rheumatology services can be improved across the NHS.

Judging for the latest awards is underway and we will be recognising winners at our Annual Conference. We’ll be providing winners with resources to share best practice and using winning case studies to help inform decision makers and improve services across the UK.

The winning projects were selected by a panel of experts including representatives from Royal Colleges, NICE and patient groups

Chris Moran poster Prize

Awarded to the best poster at the Annual conference, reflecting both presentation and quality.

Who can apply:

  • AHPs
  • Nurses
  • Pharmacists
  • Psychologists
  • Researchers

Applicants do not have to be a member to apply, but must be a registered Annual conference delegate to be eligible for this prize.

How to apply:

You must submit an abstract for the Annual conference through the abstract submission site under any allied health professional topic.

All allied health professional abstracts selected for poster presentation are automatically entered for the prize.

The winner will receive:

  • £100 prize cheque
  • Certificate of achievement

Applications will reopen in 2018.

Droitwich Medical Trust Prize

Awarded to the best clinical case report submitted at the Annual conference.

Who can apply:

  • Consultants
  • AHPs
  • Paediatricians
  • Medical Trainees
  • ​Applicants do not have to be a member to apply.
How to apply:

To be eligible for this award you must submit a case report for our Annual conference through the abstract submission site.

All abstracts selected for case reports, poster presentation or oral abstracts sessions are automatically entered for the prize and are judged onsite.

The winner will receive:

  • £250 prize cheque
  • Certificate of achievement

Applications will reopen in 2018.

Garrod Prize

The Garrod prize is open to scientists with a non-clinical background currently working in rheumatology or related discipline. The prize is awarded for excellence in scientific research in the field of rheumatology.

Who can apply:

Applicants must be a member to apply and expected to have less than 10 years’ experience in research activities. Types of people who can apply:

  • Non-clinical scientists
  • Applicants must be a member to apply.
How to apply:

You are only required to submit:

  • Your full CV 
  • Three to five published papers on a related subject 
  • An explanation of your contribution to the work 
The winner will receive:

  • Garrod Trophy
  • £500 prize cheque
  • Certificate of achievement
  • Complimentary registration to the Annual conference
  • Opportunity to present your work during a plenary session at the Annual conference
  • Research will be considered for publication in Rheumatology

Michael Mason prize

Is awarded annually for excellence in clinical or scientific research in the field of rheumatology.

Who can apply:

Applicants must be a member and expected to be at a relatively early stage of their research career. Types of people who can apply:

  • Consultants or equivalent

  • Your full CV 
  • Three to five published papers on a related subject 
  • An explanation of your contribution to the work 

The winner will receive:

  • The Michael Mason trophy
  • £1,000 prize cheque
  • Complimentary registration to Annual conference
  • Opportunity to present your work during a plenary session at the Annual conference
  • Research will be considered for publication in Rheumatology

Young Investigator Award

An award to encourage the work of young investigative rheumatologists.

Who can apply:

  • Medical and non-medical trainees
  • AHPs
  • Paediatricians
How to apply:

To be eligible for this award you must submit an abstract for the Annual conference through the abstract submission site.

The applicant must submit a piece of research of which you are the first author. It should include an imaginative hypothesis with results that could advance knowledge within the field.
